Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
  • 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 box lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
  • 2 cups cottage cheese or ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, sausage, and onion over medium heat until browned. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  3. Drain excess fat. Stir in marinara sauce, crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix ricotta or cottage cheese with egg and Parmesan cheese until combined.
  5. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  6. Layer 3-4 noodles over the sauce, then spread with 1/3 of the cheese mixture and 1/3 of the meat sauce. Repeat layers twice more.
  7. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  9. Let rest 10 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with parsley and serve like the hero you are.
